Event Overview

Under the soft glow of Taronga Zoo and the quiet shimmer of Sydney Harbour, we gathered to honour a global icon, the life of a woman who changed us all. The Australian Memorial for Dr Jane Goodall DBE was more than an event. It felt like a collective embrace. A moment where love, gratitude and gentle remembrance settled over everyone in the room.

As guests arrived and took their seats, there was a shared stillness, the kind that happens when people come together out of deep respect and love. Georgie Gardner opened the evening with warmth, followed by a beautiful Acknowledgement of Country, smoking ceremony, cultural reflections and a symbolic future-focused handover by Susan Moylan-Coombs that grounded us in connection and healing.

Cameron Kerr welcomed everyone into the heart of the night, leading into a tender keynote from Maria Sykes. She shared Jane’s story with such care that many of us felt tears rising. A moving tribute video followed, filled with memories that reminded us just how extraordinary Jane’s life truly was.

Producer’s Comments

“Before she died, Dr Jane Goodall asked people not to travel to her memorial, so it was very important that we had a reliable live stream connection for people to join online to honour her life. The internet connection at Taronga Zoo is notoriously spotty, so we reached out to PopUp WiFi. They instantly reached out with an offer to sponsor the event, and provided the best quality Wi-Fi signal to ensure a reliable connection with their largest production-grade unit, the Titan. One of the founders even delivered the unit personally and set it up for us, a very kind gesture of support for our event.

If the internet had not worked at our event, it would’ve been a great shame. As a global icon, a lot of people wanted to watch and honour and respect Dr Goodall. Without reliable internet, they would not have been able to do this. We were so grateful for the support and to have access to this technology. PopUp WiFi is well worth the investment to ensure your production actually works on the day.”
