Event Overview

The Unconformity is a biennial contemporary arts festival held in Queenstown on Lutruwita/Tasmania’s remote West Coast. Our mission is to explore the unique cultural identity of the region through art, community engagement, and storytelling, creating transformative experiences that connect locals and visitors alike to this remarkable place.

Queenstown is a small and geographically isolated town, and the festival’s scale is often limited by the availability of accommodation and infrastructure. The Unconformity transforms this remoteness into a strength, activating unconventional sites like mine sheds, community halls, rainforests and working sawmills. Each project responds to the region’s landscape, history, and people, offering audiences deeply immersive encounters found nowhere else in Australia.
This year’s festival marked our 15th anniversary, drawing record crowds and major headliners including Spiderbait, alongside community-led projects such as The Unconformity Cup and the Art Trail.

Over four days, the festival presents a dynamic program of performances, exhibitions, installations, live music, and participatory projects across Queenstown and its surrounding valleys. The program features works created in and inspired by place, often developed through long-term collaborations with artists, residents, and local industry.

Producer’s Comments

“Without PopUp WiFi, our ability to operate effectively – from ticketing and vendor transactions to livestreaming and digital art activations – would have been severely compromised. Reliable connectivity is essential in a town with limited cash supplies and variable reception, and PopUp WiFi ensured our festival ran smoothly, both on the ground and online.

PopUp WiFi enabled us to extend the festival’s impact far beyond Queenstown by supporting live broadcasts, digital artworks, and real-time audience engagement. Their reliable service underpinned everything from critical event operations to creative experimentation, helping us bridge the gap between physical and virtual audiences. The team’s technical expertise and collaborative spirit meant they were always ready to problem-solve and adapt as the program evolved.

PopUp WiFi do more than provide WiFi – they’re true collaborators! Their friendly, knowledgeable team understands the complexities of remote events and consistently delivers solutions that go above and beyond expectations. Whether you’re managing essential event operations or experimenting with digital storytelling, PopUp WiFi offers the reliability, flexibility, and partnership approach that makes ambitious events like ours possible.”
